We aim to restore lives, homes and communities. Jubilee staff and volunteers
are working toward accomplishing this vision with a holistic approach to
community service by providing programs that promote human and
community development.
Jubilee is committed to a future in Berkeley and Oakland where community
roots are nurtured, neighborhoods are safe, vibrant centers of activity
and
families can thrive. Issues regarding housing affordability and availability
remain one of the largest obstacles to the most vulnerable members of
our
community – seniors, low-income families, at-risk youth and the
homeless.
Jubilee has created programs to address this and a variety of other serious
issues in Berkeley and Oakland, but we have a lot of work ahead. To date,
Jubilee has worked to tackle housing and social issues by creating a
number
of transitional housing opportunities for men, women and youth, helping
over one hundred families to become first-time homeowners and providing
services such as job and computer training, nutrition and counseling
to the
public.
Our programs and initiatives operate under eight objectives:
1. Provide high-quality, well maintained housing to low-income families.
2. Allow first-time homebuyers the opportunity to purchase affordable
homes.
3. Foster economic development through job development opportunities,
job training and promoting the pursuit of continuing education.
4. Formulate a holistic approach to addressing the needs of the poor,
the
homeless, the elderly and disadvantaged youth through partnerships
and creating services.
5. Ensure that individuals suffering from health and social problems
(including substance abuse) have access to necessary services and
treatment options and programs.
6. Advance education opportunities, through providing education services
and referring clients to accredited education opportunities.
7. Cultivate excellence in the delivery of human services.
8. Promote, support and assist in the development and revitalization
of ourlocal East Bay communities.
Jubilee Restoration currently operates four programs:
Property Development
Jubilee Housing is currently developing a variety of mixed-use affordable
housing projects in South and West Berkeley.
Property Management
Jubilee Housing manages rental properties (both apartments and houses)
in
Berkeley and West Oakland.
Jubilee Employment Training (JET)
We designed this computer training center with young people in mind but
we encourage people of all ages to take advantage of our services ranging
from job search and placement to resume development.
Missionary Recovery Center Transitional Housing (MRC)
A cornerstone of Jubilee’s services, MRC is a clean and sober transitional
house for men who are looking to turn their lives around. Our
compassionate, skilled staff assesses each person’s individual
needs to
provide case management and work with the men to coordinate substance
abuse services and to develop their job and life skills through work
therapy
and the pursuit of educational goals.
Jubilee Healthy Families
Jubilee Healthy Families promotes the African American 5 a Day program as well
as the food stamp program in African American churches, at large festivals, through the
media, at grocery stores that serve a large percentage of low-income African Americans,
through health fairs and through physical activity events. We also advocate health to
area policy makers, social action groups and community leaders.
