The Missionary Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Gordon Choyce Sr. started implementing social service programs in 1992. These programs were incorporated under the rubric of Jubilee Restoration in 1996. The mission of the Jubilee Adult program is to provide individuals with the tools they need to overcome struggles with poverty, homelessness, mental illness and substance abuse. Jubilee’s goal is to integrate individuals broken by substance abuse, mental illness and homelessness back into society through the help of service and counseling programs, life skills education, job training and partnering with other churches. In order to meet this mission, Jubilee Restoration created a state-licensed residential substance abuse service program, Missionary Recovery Program (MRC), the Women’s Recovery Center (WRC), several transitional houses and computer training center (JET.) MRC provides support services including shelter, case management, nutrition, occupational training, relapse prevention and life skills counseling. Missionary Recovery CenterSubstance abuse is a serious and intractable problem for many people. There is an extreme shortage of recovery programs available, funding cuts are effecting the delivery of services and failure rates for recovery programs are notoriously high. Data shows that clients in recovery, even ones who graduate from extended programs, tend to fall back into old patterns when they re-enter their old lives, deprived of a support network to help them with the hard work of remaining clean and sober. Missionary Recovery Center, as a program of Jubilee Restoration, is administered by an agency that is deeply rooted in the community it serves. Jubilee, a housing and social service agency, offers MRC clients opportunities for sustained involvement in a supportive network of residential recovery care, health and psychological services, life skills training and employment assistance. Thanks to community connections and the network of resources our larger organization offers, MRC achieves its success by providing long-term transitional recovery opportunities that can lead to permanent placement for graduating clients. These clients consequently remain in recovery long after their departure from the program. There are two program components to the MRC house; an intensive 90-day, 12-step residential substance abuse program and a 27-month residential recovery transition program. Clients who successfully complete the 90-day Intensive Program or who are clean and sober and at a comparable stage in their recovery have the option of entering Jubilee’s residential recovery transition program. Clients who complete the entire 30-month program are acknowledged through a program graduation at which time they are ready to enter into permanent housing. 90-Day Intensive ProgramMRC clients can enter the program for a 90-day intensive recovery phase. During this time they work through an overview of the standard 12-step program with individual and group counseling support. The 12-step education process is divided into three thirty-day phases, establishing milestones to be reached at the end of every month. In order to progress from one phase to another, MRC participants must complete written statements explaining the four steps (of the 12-step program) they have accomplished and what those steps mean to them. Additionally, they must meet with the Case Manager to discuss their on-going recovery and current status. With each milestone, participants receive increased privileges and leadership responsibilities within the program. Residential Recovery Transition ProgramClients who successfully complete the 90-day Intensive Program or who are clean and sober and at a comparable stage in their recovery have the option of entering Jubilee’s residential recovery transition program, which provides subsidized housing and support services for up to 27 additional months. Clients may reside at MRC for up to a total of thirty months while they work on their 12-step process, engage in a comprehensive Life Skills plan, participate in a supportive clean and sober community and save money toward entering into permanent housing. Once the extended timeline is complete, the majority of graduates continue to remain involved in the program as volunteers, sponsors, and supporters. The MRC empowerment-focused model contains six key components: case management, classes/education, work, spiritual development, community, and service.
Women’s Recovery ProgramThe Women’s Recovery Center is a program that is committed to providing comprehensive substance abuse treatment to women with identified alcohol and drug addiction. Our goal is to improve the lives of women through education, training and spiritual guidance and to teach them how to live clean and sober productive lives that will enable them to transition back into their communities and to reunite with their families. Additionally, program participants will learn how to manage their thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and learn coping skills. A strong emphasis will be placed on discipline, accountability, responsibility and spirituality during their stay in the program. To undergo
alcohol and drug rehabilitation services in a six to nine month
residential setting, participants will engage in a total process
of recovery, which includes:
