The Jubilee Youth program takes a holistic approach to equipping and
empowering children and youth with counseling services, outreach,
education, life-skills and nutrition because we believe they need to develop
social, spiritual and emotional tools to become significant individuals who
will create a more safe and loving community.

THE JUBILEE YOUTH PROGRAM

Jubilee believes a key element to the success of our youth program is creating partnerships with community agencies and coalitions that connect our youth to a full range of services. Building from long-time community institutions, our programs maximize available local resources serving the youth. They harness these resources to tackle the problems of homelessness, drug and alcohol use, HIV/AIDS and other STDs, illiteracy, youth crime including gang activity, computer education and job training.

Jubilee Youth operates two programs, the Jubispot Drop-in for homeless and at-risk youth and Jubilee Employment Training (JET). The Jubispot Drop-in is a comfortable drop-in house for homeless and at- risk youth who would not otherwise have access to clinical mental health services, substance abuse counseling and HIV/AIDS/STD education, treatment programs or referrals. Our Youth Program Director has an MS in Clinical Psychology and has designed this youth program around providing clinical psycho-social assessments, case management, individual therapy and a wide range of workshops for our youth. The JET Program is a computer lab/training facility so that youth may learn how to use computers and develop tools for job training and employment searches.

The Jubispot is a different type of drop-in - more than a place to go just for food, case management and referrals; we designed it to be a safe and comfortable haven where homeless and at-risk youth can seek sanctuary from the street and feel at home. Substance abuse, mental illness, and HIV/AIDS are significant problems for homeless youth and we choose to focus our service efforts at the Jubispot Drop-in on these issues. The Jubilee Youth Program employs a Harm Reduction model for providing service to youth. The goal of the Harm Reduction model is to reduce the risk associated with homelessness, drug use, mental illness and HIV/AIDS and other STDs. Our drop-in provides case management, psycho-social clinical assessment, substance abuse counseling, substance abuse and dual diagnosis groups, referrals and counseling regarding HIV/AIDS/STD prevention.

In addition to the Harm Reduction model, Jubilee plans to model future program expansion on education and job opportunities, peer mentoring and instruction in performing and creative arts. These three components are vital for forming self-identity, building community and creating a sustainable future for our youth.
